Our Mission
While we always try to focus on fun and the outdoors here are some of our specific goals for the year.
-
Raise over €1500 for ‘Purple House Cancer Support’
-
Each year we hold a fundraiser hike in collaboration with Purple House Cancer Support. Our mission for 2019 is to beat the amount we raised last time, which was a whopping €1500!
-
Purple House Cancer Support are a charity group based in Bray, Co. Wicklow, who offer support, counselling, and workshops for those affected by cancer. This includes friends and family of cancer patients

-
Incorporate the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals into all of our activities
-
DU Rover Soc have pledged to help achieve the goals set out by the United Nations in their ‘Sustainable Development Goals’ strategy. Our annual programme is carefully designed to incorporate elements of each of the 17 goals. This initiative is linked to a broader partnership between the UN and the World Organisation of the Scouting Movement (WOSM). In this way, we also strive towards the ultimate goal of Scouting; to create a better world.

-
Become Messengers of Peace
-
Any Scout that voluntarily contributes 10 or more hours to a community service project in the area of peace is eligible to become a Messenger of Peace (MoP), and receive an internationally recognised badge. This year’s project is titled ‘DU Rover Scouts Against Borders’. Some elements of the project will include a reading and discussion of Anna Burns’ Man Booker Prize winning novel ‘Milkman’, alongside MoP activities addressing border issues. This year, we will also be facilitating a Trans-Atlantic letter exchange with Scouts from the Texas/Mexico border to explore the issue of borders in our respective communities.
